Once you've got your main inspiration piece, choose a color scheme which will compliment it best - keeping your own color preferences in mind. Also, adding a little texture to your color selections will add to the ethnic flavor of your design. Use textured fabrics for accent pieces, or consider textured wall treatments to compliment your inspiration piece.

Mix or Match

You can work with one ethnic style (i.e. Indian) or create a more broad ethnic design (i.e. Asian). Either way you can create a beautiful interior as long as you keep a few things in mind.

For example, if you are going for an Indian flare, begin by researching the art and colors used in India. Select complimentary pieces that reflect the designs of the Indian culture.

If you are mixing it up, decide on a color palette first. Then select pieces from within your color palette from several cultures. This will help unite and blend the various elements from different cultures into a wonderful design.

A good color choice is essential to either look. You want your pieces to compliment each other rather than compete against each other. When you are shopping for art, fabrics or paint take swatches of your color scheme with you to make sure your new purchases work with your room.
